Seeking journo leaders’ bank details: Nationwide demo on Sept 23
Journalists will take to the streets throughout the country on September 23rd, protesting Bangladesh Financial Intelligence unit's (BFIU) move to request information on the bank accounts of 11 journalists' heads.
Molla Jalal the president of a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) has announced the program in a protest held in the Dhaka's Jatiya Press Club.
Journalists and their leaders staged an assembly following a Human chain that was set up at Jatiya Press Club during the daytime.
The leaders from Jatiya Press Club, two factions of BFUJ, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) along with Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) were present at the program.
On September 12th, BFIU issued letters to all banks requesting account details from 11 notable journalists who run various platforms.
Journalists have stated that the need to obtain bank account details are "unprecedented, defamatory, and ill-motivated."
